We as people are only here and can only do the things we do, because the people before were and did the things they did.
On the porch I sit I look
At all the wrong paths I took
On that porch I sit and think
About my life as just a link
In one big chain that I can’t see
Of those before and those to be
We’re just a list of people that
Pretty soon we’ll all forget
But if one was missing from the line
The rest would not be here in time
Those one’s before from the past
Link us all to the rest
Now on the porch I crack a smile
I realize I’m just a child
But soon will be linked to more
Other than the ones before
