A humorous poem describing the suicide of an intellectual.
I once knew a man who didn’t care
Ignored the folk who’d laugh and stare
He’d talk of things no one agnised
And had no friends that’s no surprise
His mind he deemed to be superior
And others simply quite inferior
His learning gleaned from days archaic
Viewed others asleep himself awake
I knew this person more than most
And on occasion been his host
Congenator and anomalist
I looked for that which others missed
Alas the thing he was omitting
I worked this out in just one sitting
Was keeping rein on grandiosity
And Ego’s penchant for viscosity
They found him dead inside his study
The knife beside him shining bloody
By his own hand life he’d unfettered
And by his side this simple letter
My intellect I deemed my God
Myself spared not the cerebral rod
My learning only showed me this
Of knowledge there is no finis
Heed my words Sisters and Brothers
Knowledge studies only others
Wisdom comes from knowing self
And not from books upon a shelf
