Is there really such a thing as having no choice?
I often wonder how life would be if we did not have a choice. Then life would be devoid of contradictions. But life is full of contradictions which Robert Fulghum, author of “Maybe (Maybe Not)”, aptly described as kaleidoscopic. Up or down? Left or right? Boy or girl? Black or white? True or false?
Here is my own list of contradictory notions which make life a little more frenzied than it already is. Whichever way we go, it is still, essentially, a matter of choice.
If you don’t have anything good to say, shut your mouth.
Speak your mind.
Don’t be afraid of what tomorrow will bring, tomorrow will take care of itself.
Save a penny for a rainy day.
The truth will set you free.
The truth hurts.
When God closes a door, he opens a window.
Opportunity knocks but once.
Hard work can beat a genius.
All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.
Birds of the same feather flock together.
Opposites attract.
Honesty is the best policy.
Fake it till you make it.
What you don’t know won’t hurt.
Be informed.
Practice makes perfect.
Nobody’s perfect.
Smokers don’t grow old; they die young.
Only the good die young.
