A Poem for a Mother on her special day.
To a mother on her special day
People often ask me what makes you so grand;
its not the big things; but the little things you do,
i replied walking hand in hand across the sand.
the smiles, the hugs and the love all from you;
taking me places; while holding my hand.
But its so much more;
reading books while lying on my bed
all the loving things you’ve said;
The visit to the hositpal when i was four
when you sat by bed when i was unwell;
and the skinned knee i got when i fell
the tears you cried only made me love you more.
The rules and discipline you gave to help me grow;
and the words you wouldnt let me say
the punishment i got when i disobeyed
and the veggies and fruit you made me eat so;
i would be the person i am today.
My dreams you helped fulfilled
the time spent watching the clouds;
roll by on the window sill.
The creativity, passion and imagination you instilled
to let me be…. whatever i wanted to be
So… i sigh “that is why you are so grand’
to you my mum, on her special day
a little token, a print of my hand
to remember how little i was; forever and a day
