Some words to boys who are left behind by fathers that abandon them.

When I look into your eyes I see the eyes that captivated me

When I look at your arms I remember the arms that held me close and stroked me

When I see your nose, your hair, your toes I am reminded of how close he was to me

I do not see the cruelty, irresponsibility and lack of trust

I do not see the anger, the pain and the tragedy

Because in you I see the best of he and me

In you I see the warmth of love, the trust, the caring and respect

The tragedy here is his

He lost, he discarded, he threw away

I see in you the strength he never had

The love he could not give

The joy I feel daily from knowing I love you

Hold not to the rocks that will drown you

Clasp tightly the wings that will help you fly

Love, trust, respect, care, concern and responsibility

Fight back with the tools he never had, nor knew how to use

You remind me of the warrior I saw in him, with different armoury.
