This is a poem I wrote for my children to express how much the little things, like tucking them in at night give me such joy.

Now I lay you down to sleep and tuck you in so tight,

I kiss you softly on the cheek just the way you like.

I hug your neck and look under the bed for monsters and make sure every thing is alright,

We turn off the switch on the wall and plug in your tiny night light.

I read your favorite bed time stories and I  act out every scene,

You giggle as I portray the role of the wicked wicked queen.

I tell you its time for bed now and you beg me “just one more”

So I pick up a little note book off of the bedroom floor.

I read to you aloud the poem you wrote for me at school,

A tear rolls down my cheek as I read every “mommy I love you”.

“Mommy, what’s the matter” you ask as you wipe the tear from my eye,

Nothing my dear sweet child, Its just that your so special it makes me cry.

I love you oh so dearly and your the best gift I have ever received,

Much more than I could have ever asked for, and more perfect that I could have believed.

Every time I put you to bed and watch your eyes close and you nod off to sleep,

I thank the lord above for my sweet, perfect angel that I get to keep.

Don’t you ever worry about a thing, I promise to keep you safe and sound,

And whenever your little wings can’t carry you, I’ll use mine to lift you off the ground.

Good night my child.
