Its a cruel world..

9 months ago I found out I had you inside me..

Although no one could see it

I was thrilled as I could ever be..

I was going to be a mother..a mother…

“Congratulations! Its a boy!”

The midwife held out little You for me to see

Oh! You were so beautiful!

How could I have created something so divine..?!

I held you close to me

You were my whole world now..

Nothing could separate you from me..

Your Daddy was never there to see You grow

Oh! How I toiled day and night

Just to earn a morsel for You to eat

Just to see that glow on Your face

Just to see You light up in joy

My hunger my pain…meant not a thing to me

All I wished for was right there..growing in front of me

I know I could never give You enough

But I really did try my best

To give you all that I had never had

I could not afford school

But You did learn how to read and write

I thank my mistress for that

And providing shelter for me and You

Remember our little adventures my little Son..?

The rickshaw trips around the chawl

Walking mistress’ dogs in the park

The soap fights while washing clothes

Begging old Abdul Chacha for a ride

On his mini ferris wheel..?

Oh! How quickly time passed by..

You bring home a wife..a beautiful wife

And suddenly I find myself all alone

My mistress says I’m too old to work

So here I am, home with the newly wed

Your beautiful wife keeps shooting me glances..

I do not think she likes me..

Years pass by and You too are blessed

With a son as divine as You had been

But what is this..!

Why won’t your beautiful wife let me hold Your little one..?

Why does she shout so rudely at me?

My Son..! Oh please let me hold the little one..

Son…….?

You told me to wait here

Not to move until you came back..

I have been standing here day and night

Waiting for you to take me home

Did I do something wrong..?

No..I haven’t moved an inch..just as you told me to..

Why won’t you return for me my Dear Son..?

The rain is pouring heavily…

Yet…I fear running for shelter

For that would break my promise to You…

I kept my promise my Dear Son…

Please return to me and take me home…

The cold rain is lashing at me…

Bringing me down…down to the cold wet ground…

Where are you…my Dear Son…..

A beautiful, yet poignant poem. You have expressed a mother’s hope and love for her child so well.

i know it does not do full justice to a mother’s feelings…but i’m really glad you all liked it…=)
