A wee run fir the wains…

I once knew a Mouse!… Whispered Papa Matt

Who lived in a house… Two or three doors down

” Had he a tale whispered Baby Islay”

Yes and his tale which I’ll tell… Was as long as a rope

His whiskers… As long as the tails of your coat

His Squeak was a Squeal… As he summoned his Troupe

All around him… There where White ones and brown

Ones Pitch Black ones and fawn ones… And!

Fat ones and thin ones… Not forgetting their master

At arms him self… The great spotted red bearded

King of them all…with his tail flicking like a whip!!

With a Crack like a stick… Attention!! he growled

To his motley crew… as he twirled his whiskers

Here’s what we’ll do…

Here is my plan… we shall pester old grumpy chin

While raiding his kitchen… His troupe in reply

All cheered and said Aye!!

…………

Soon the mouse troupe was set loose

Sneaking and scampering aw roon the hoose

Up high on top of the pantry all round the floor

In kitchen cupboards and all of their drawers

Skittering and whizzing all over the place

As poor old grumpy chin snoozed on his couch

With a foolish big grin stretched from chin to chin

His big Rollie poly belly was shaking like jelly

One mouse even ran over his head laughed!!

Then said if Eee weren’t snoring yud fink Eee wer

Dead!!

Just then the Cat flap lid fell!!

Run for your life!

Echoed all round the hoose

Bob Cat is back!! Bob Cat’s back…

So off they all scattered back down their holes

As Bob Cat came screeching a meowing and hissing

Cross the floor hitting a lamp stand

That smashed to the floor with a thunderous CRASH!!

ARRgg!!! screamed old Grumpy Chin with a startling

Roar! what the Sam’s mittens caused that!!

All the mice now hidden were chuckling with glee

At old Grumpy Chin giving Bob Cat  a scolding

Without letting him explain?

This sounds like a delightful children’s story. It’s cute. I still read children’s stories sometime. My favorite is The Cat in the Hat. You make mice sound fun!

Quite something about mice! Back in my village many years ago, we had a house full of mice and other rats-we were almost under the mercy and colonial yoke of these creatures, they would eat off our food, bite our toe nails while we sleep, destroy our clothings and then most annoying go up the roof and mock at us because they seemed so clever enough to know we would never get at them! They seemed winners, but one day we poisoned their baits and hundreds of them died-we had a great relief! Mice can be a real nuisance! some even fraternize with cats!
