The old violin has been by my side for many years,

it has played very well for me in our years together.

Concert after concert it did its best to perform well,

on more then one occasion it got a standing ovation.

The legendary strings has been replaced many times,

its faded wooden surface has had to be touched up.

The well worn pegs let me tune it up numerous times,

but the violin played some beautiful music afterwards.

My thin calloused hands caressed its neck with love,

its as if the violin was my secret lover in wooden form.

The chin rest  balanced me well as I played the violin,

its delicate bridge letting the bow gently glide over it.

But my well loved violin has shown wear and tear,

a sure sign  of how much time has gone by for it.

The wood is faded and the strings are well worn,

the bow that I used the most has aged along with it.

I spotted a new one in a music store earlier today,

it was all shiny and its new bow never played with.

The price tag was much higher then my older violin,

but I did not love this violin like I loved my older one.

So I have decided to keep playing my older violin,

the repairs made it playable for a few more concerts.

Its a part of me like I’m a huge part of my old friend,

I see no logical reason to break up a very good team.

But when I do decide to buy a brand new violin,

my much loved older one will retire with honors.

Live out its days as a cherished  treasure of mine,

its his turn to listen to the beautiful music this time.

A very heart warming piece. I used to feel like that about my old guitar which I used to really enjoy playing, until one day I dropped it and it split. It never sounded the same again. That was the end of my guitar playing days.

Violins are beautiful instruments, I have never been able to play one well – this is indeed a heartwarming piece.

Those old possessions become a part of us. They become much more than just “things.”

I am a sentimentalist, so I guess I’ll keep the old one playing. Nice outpouring of sentiments in this well-composed piece.

A good vibrating piece which many people can relate to.
