My New Years resolution is to focus on positive change and the hard work that is necessary to accomplish it.

New Years eve looms ahead
A day away as I scour the internet
Looking for a new job ‘cause I got my hours cut
Outside the sun is exposed as it reverses the work of a cold week
The lake is now only half frozen and the snow has faded from sight
I see faded blades of grass and water full of diamonds
Maybe a thousand engagement rings have been cast away
Or maybe the sun is just showing off the power of its rays

I’m gonna keep it low-key this year
Just going to my best-friends
They’ve had that title for most of my life
Spent a lot of New Years with them
They make me comfortable with all of my flaws
Bringing the darkness into the light
And finding beauty in the ugly corners of my life
I know I’m going to drink far past the point of no return
I know there are some lessons I knowingly refuse to learn
But this candle has been burnt to the end of its wick
Maybe it’s the fire in my blood that is keeping it lit
I’m not sure how I walk in good spirits when I tarnish it so
I just find my rest in recklessness
A contradiction I could only admit in a poem
So I’ll remember this year for the moments I’d rather forget
I’ll forgive myself the chances I let slip away
I’ll make amends for the deals I schemed on my behalf
I’ll do my best and I swear that I’ll carve out the path I deserve
I just need to do what is necessary to make it one earned
