Dreaming of creepy, crawly bugs inching their way up your leg as you sleep. Brush them away, but they don’t leave you alone. Those bugs talk, then you scream. You realize it was just a dream.

words
bugs
birds
the wind
a lawn mower
kids screaming
everything
slamming against my brain
as if the headache I already had
wasn’t enough
to send me
into a chaotic mood
a frenzy
so frustrating
yet a bit eerie
when the fog rolls in
over the hill
into the valley
of dreams
I go stumbling
trying to get up
but fall
face first
into a muddy swamp
where there’s bugs
and birds that don’t chirp
there’s creepy, crawly things
scattering about
wake up, wake up, WAKE UP
screaming
sweating
panting
it was only a dream
