"Two Mandarin ducks playing in the water" ~From a Chinese proverb, a metaphor for loving couples.

A pair of Mandarin Ducks
Playing in the cold water
The drake clad in his colored tux
Preening for his demure lover
They splash and swim in unison
Like little ducklings frolicking
A sincere love in season
So caught up in their rollicking
The drake chases his lady
As she coyly paddles away
He wants to make her his baby
Before she can get away
Soon their eyes lock in affection
Captured in conjugal bliss
A symbol of wedded connection
Their beaks in a gentle kiss

That was quite nice. I was going to make a humorous comment but I’ll let it go. This was just too romantic.

I like it (not the delicacy out of a recipe from Mandarin ducks). Your poem is like a swan song, in this case, a duck song. What more romantic could there be than a poetry which exemplifies affection apart from other life functions? BTW thanks for the story behind the pictures I asked.

I am very impressed with this poem–especially the vivid, evocative imagery and your attention to detail.

    Brilliant my friend.

Wow, nice poem and beautiful picture too! For your information, I have a pair of ducks at home which look quite similar as your picture but only different in colour, … but mine are not real duck, made of wood instead, just for decoration.. heehee….(liked it)
