A poem about Texas Holdem.
It something that creeps around in your head,
whether you’ve been up all night or just got out of bed.
It nags you, and calls you and and sings in your mind,
then loves you then hates you then robs you blind.
You give to it freely, without even a thought,
till the hope of winning is about all that you got.
You say that you love it, and then cuss it out,
yet, you’d beg, borrow or steal for it without a second thought.
The minute you know you hate it and say that you’ll quit,
you look at the table and see it’s trips that you’ve hit!
So with all of your winnings, and your faith renewed,
you shove in your whole pile, only to loose!
Some would say your crazy as you pull out your last ten,
but you know this time is different, this time you will win!
You now have your hole cards, spades, eight and nine,
the flop hits the table, you just know you’ll win this time!
With spades, queen, jack and ten before you, you’ve flopped a straight flush!
You raise, pushing more chips in and feeling the rush.
All follow your raise, now comes the turn,
A seven of spades! Let the River card burn!
Knowing you’ve won, you throw in your last buck.
Two of hearts on the river! Oh, but what luck!
You lay down your hole cards, ready to pull your chips in,
then you hear someone saying, hey you didn’t win!
As your heart stops beating, the winner calls out his hand,
you sit down slowly as your Nemesis stands!
He lays down his, hole cards, spades, Ace and King,
as reality sinks in slowly, a poker players worst dream!
You were sure that you won, the hand no one could touch!
Oh, but this hand has outranked yours, that damn Royal Flush!
