This is a poem I wrote on 8/12/09.
I used to sleep so well at night,
With calming peaceful dreams,
But now my slumber’s filled with fright,
I’m just too old, it seems.
The status quo thinks I may be,
A burden to the state,
And now they are informing me,
My meds will have to wait.

Diabetes, pain and gout,
Is quite a load to bear,
But that’s what reform’s all about,
It really isn’t fair.
I’ve worked too hard to build this life,
My children say they’re proud,
Rivets in the Golden Gate,
So many fields I’ve plowed

I’m old and tired I admit,
But happy with my life,
To them I’ve reached the end of it,
The same goes for my wife.
I didn’t vote for sweeping change,
I didn’t ask for this,
My Constitution re-arranged,
And now we’re Socialists.

I held up signs, I pumped my fist,
I thought I had a choice,
But I was called a terrorist,
They tried to quell my voice.
And claim that I was just a plant,
A lackey to disrupt,
Annoying little syncophant,
Paid to interrupt.

But I will not give up my will,
As long as I can speak,
I may be old, I may be ill,
But haven’t hit my peak.
You’ve only angered this old man,
Not heard the last of me,
So keep your trillion dollar plan,
It costs too much, you see.
