This poem highlights some of the most important aspects of R.A. Salvatore’s Legend Of Drizzt series. It is a summary in a sense. Enjoy.

The Legend of Drizzt

A legend past will be told again,

Of fate unkind and cruel.

Of faerie folk, there are but two,

Elves of light, and drows ghoul.

The dark elves, or the drows beneath

Live in a darkened place.

With their light blue eyes of magic sight,

See heat to dispel the haze.

Of mighty houses there are but nine,

And strife falls underground;

For in the dark, one cannot see,

Nor hear the murderous sound.

The drows live by their two cruel codes,

Station and deception are they,

The first shows order for drow’s long life,

The latter, survival’s way.

Lloth, the spider queen, who rules,

To her the drows will hail.

She has decreed that females rule,

With whips controlling males.

And so the ruler named Malice,

The matron of house ten,

Fights the sixth house of Devir,

For her house Do’Urden.

The house of Devir is no more,

The hundred in it dead;

No one cared for strength had won,

Through the birth of Drizzt, it’s said.

Drizzt was a boy of unusual eyes,

For his was not of blue,

But shone instead, of indigo

With talents no one knew.

A special child with special eyes,

Eyes that see in dark.

But also let him see the truth,

Through brightness of light spark!

For eighteen years he faced hard life,

Different from the rest;

And punished for his insolence

To females who were the best.

One man had come to seal his fate,

To take him off to train.

The one who trained Drizzt was named Zak

And hoped to keep Drizzt sane.

For three long years, Drizzt trained with sword,

Intelligence and strength his way,

And hold his own against the best

To soon beat Zak one day!

The Matron Malice came one day

To take Drizzt to the place,

The place where drow children harden their hearts,

Losing innocence of their ways.

Zak wanted to protect this drow

From cruelty of their race,

And fought with Drizzt for a final blow

To Drizzt’s innocent face.

But he could not bring himself to do

This terrible deed towards Drizzt,

And thus Drizzt goes to the Academy;

Zak wandered through aged mist.

But with warm heart, Drizzt held the truth,

A shining source of light.

And didn’t let the teachings cruel,

Deter him from true sight.

His swordsmanship grew and none can hold
