A promise that we make if only to ourselves.

Should I cower in fear?

For that would surely show weakness

So I think I will stand

As straight as I can be

Withstand whatever punishment

You offer up to me

Now I know my worth

This greatness I will share

For I do not need praises

To show how much I care

My lips have spoken many words

Some of those unkind

It seems I have forgotten you

And I was almost blind

The promise that I make to you

Is one I will surely keep?

That I will always comfort you whenever

Whenever you should weep

For I will always be your friend

I take the higher path

To think of when we had such times

And used to mock and laugh

The mistake you made

Is now forgiven

But I will never forget

And later when you look upon this

It will be with great regret
