There is no love that surpasses a mother’s love and when Mom has a life threatening illness it causes one to take stock, and when she recovers, praise God.

Mama sits quietly
An animated look upon her face
The children are drawn to her
And love visiting Grandma’s place

They chatter endlessly
About everyone and everything
But Mama just sits quietly
Watching and listening

Her little dog jumps and runs
With the energy of ten
She grabs the sock from Mama’s pocket
And then she runs again

Mama’s face is aglow
Love etched upon her face
There’s much love to be found
When visiting Mama’s place

She sits beside a pen and pad
And writes notes with her two hands
She reminisces about Dad
There’s a lot she understands

But still she must sit quietly
Her speech was taken from a stroke
She communicates by writing
It’s a long time since she’s spoke.

She expresses love by touch
And caresses with her hands
We love her very much
And are glad she understands.

Though her speech was taken from her
We are glad she has her mind
Mom’s one of the smartest ladies
You will ever find.

And even though she’s clever
It’s her heart that makes her rare
For she has the purest heart
And love beyond compare.

We love you, Mom

I was really touched by this Judy, as my own mother was killed earlier this year.

I am so sorry for your loss. My father died a few months ago, but Mom is our anchor. I hug her every chance I get. I will pray that you feel your mother’s presence, because I know we are watched from above.

A very touching story. Your poem shows us that we don’t need to be able to speak to be the backbone keeping the family close. A mother is a blessing who shows her love and strength in so many ways.

Thank you, Darlene for reading and commenting. Listening, really listening is underrated, don’t you think?

Beautiful description of a mother. I can just imagine Mom sits there quietly watching…I hope she will feel better and better each day.

That is so sweet. I know if I knew her, I’d love her too, just by reading this poem! I know this came from your heart.
