Jesus wasn’t born on the 25th day of December, and this holiday is man made.

Surrounded by animals and other furry things.

Lay the baby Jesus, our saviour and king.

Guided by a bright and shinning star.

Three wise men traveled from very far.

But Jesus Christ wasn’t really born on Christmas day.

This is a man made story, written and told their way.

Baby Jesus was born in a manger.

But the 25th of December, belongs to so other stranger.

Jesus was born on Christmas day…just not in December…most likely February, according to weather conditions in Bethlehem at the time.

Thanks for being on my side Ken.

Many of Christianity’s practices are influenced by pagan religions. Enjoyed the read

Absolutely beautifully written, but I agree I don’t believe it occurred on the 25th of December, because of time frame by the nissan calendar used overseas.

I’ve read that it most likely occurred in the spring. We will never know exactly what day it was. The important thing is that we still celebrate it.

i heard on the news this week about jesus being born on the 6th dec but as you said it was man who moved it to the 25th dec, i also agree with ken, when i was ????an age anyway, i heard he was born in feb not in dec, thanks for this topic.

This is a wonderful read. I always heard that he was born on Dec 25.

  • Frances Lawrence on Dec 11, 2009

I don’t think the date matters, it is the fact that He was born that we should focus on.

  • Dame Barbara on Dec 11, 2009

    This is so true!!

  • Eunice Tan on Dec 11, 2009

Not 25 Dec definitely. I regret with the decision to practice pagan celebration, however date is not the matter.

  • AlmaG on Dec 11, 2009

Yes Jesus wasn’t born on December 25. He was born at a time when the climate was cold. I think Ken is right; may be around January or Feb. :)

  • Thewoodlandelf on Dec 12, 2009

Yes, I too always heard that it was an early spring month like February or March, and that they moved the date to December to try and override the pagan solstice holiday. Great poem.

Jesus was a great man, no matter the date of his birth! It is his resurrection (easter) that should be the BIG holiday. That shows us that our sins can be forgiven so that we may join the Lord!

    Great write, interesting and true..

  • Christine Ramsay on Dec 12, 2009

I think the December date came from that being the slow time of year when the harvest was in and there was little work to be done so it was a time of holiday and festivity. An intersting and well written piece.

Yes I do agree there has been a lot of man made stories when it comes to Prophet Jesus. I just wish it would be cleared out for everyone to have the right story :) Nice work

Astronomers have pegged the date at June 17th, in the year 02 BC, actually, due to the “shining star of the East” that figures so prominently in the story.
