Reading for very young children should be nice and easy with something new to learn. Here is a short story, perfect to read at bedtime, which will help them learn a little bit more about the world they live in.

I live in a house and I sleep in a bed.
Outside my house, in a tree, a bird sleeps in a nest.
Below the tree, in my back garden, a fish sleeps in a pond.
Behind my garden, in a field, a mouse sleeps down a hole.
Above the ground, in a prickly bush, a spider sleeps in a web.
Now it’s time for me to go to bed, but where will I sleep tonight?
In a spiders web, in a prickly bush?
Down a hole in a field?
In a pond in my back garden?
In a nest in a tall tree?
No! I like living in my house. My bed is the best place for me.

Very nice. Loved it. I’m going to print this out and read to my two year old.

Many thanks JK Kristie! It’s so nice to hear that other people are enjoying it. My son is nearly two and I read it to him when he sits still for long enough! I hope you and your daughter get lots more reading time together, it’s one of my favourite things to do with my son. Thanks again for your kind words! xxx
