If one word could summarize the Biblical story of Ruth, it is “Grace”!
A Story of Grace
Naomi had lost her husband,
To her daughter in laws she said,
Return to thy kindred and people.
Now that thy husbands are dead.
But Ruth could not be entreated
To leave her, for she said.
Thy people shall be my people.
It was grace exhibited!
And then to the field of Boaz,
Ruth’s footsteps one day wended,
He saw her there with the reapers,
Inquired, and befriended!
Leave handfuls of the harvest,
When thou thy harvest hast ended.
That she may see and gather.
Here we see grace extended!
Then at the advice of her mother,
She rose and washed her face
Then she went down to the threshing,
Where he lay, she marked the place.
Without his knowledge lay there.
He awoke and Ruth he faced!
He would do as required to take her.
And she would embrace his grace!
So he went to the gate of the city.
The law he would not void.
But alas the nearer kinsman
Her welfare would avoid.
So Boaz, he deemed to take her,
God chose with a baby boy.
To bless the little family,
With this grace complete her joy!
