A love sonnet, of sorts; it could be subtitled "Sa Belle Dame sans Merci.")
“Hello. It’s been a long time. How are you?”
In early February, one cold day,
The message came. Now, what was one to do?
Three years of silence broken–What to say?
Nothing, nothing at all. Who would deny
That was the way to put her in her place?
(And yet, along with my resolve to try,
Appeared a vision of an angel’s face.)
Well, she shall have from me no sugared verses;
No sweets, no flowers, no! What she deserves
Is nothing but Saint Valentine’s Day curses!
(But heaven never knew more perfect curves.)
“Hey, great to hear from you! This is too much!
I’m really glad you’ve gotten back in touch!”
