A "Fast Break" inspired imagery poem.
The 14-pound ball of solid material rolls out
of the machine smoothly and taps lightly against the other balls
and is picked up as the thumb, middle, and ring finger
slide gently through the holes
as feet are positioned on the second set of dots
all the way to the right, focusing eyes on second arrow
from the right on the lane
and then four steps are taken
in which the last results sliding to the foul line as soft and slippery as butter
while the arm is swung back at almost a semi-circle
and brought back up, the hand twists
and instantaneously thumb comes out first and the middle fingers slide
up the edge of the ball
and then the ball is quickly moving down the lane at fast rotation like a tornado
it spins into the gap that the 1 and 3 pin form at the back end of the lane
and just like that, all the pins are knocked down to what is heard to be an explosion
a strike!
