No one but a soldier truly knows the meaning of nightmares…

Safe in bed, filled with dread.
Memories haunting their sleep.
There eyes flutter shut as the feel the cut of  a barbed wire fleet.
There body lays still but is running up hills in attempt to avoid the grim reaper.

A spouse at their side, but not in the head.
Next to them lays a brother dead.
There back is patched up and numb from the doc,
But the bullet enters again.

The bomb goes off with flashing lights,
There body wrenched in fright,
There fingers lay still, but they still hold a gun,
Tight to the trigger they remain.

The blankets are smooth but feel like sand.
Its ruffles like spiders,
They feel there bite.
Again they fight for there life

They may be home safe in their bed,
But not when the sun goes down.
The war is now over,
But not for them, as it continues to blaze in their head….
