Poem about my heritage.

*A Long walk down Heritage Lane*

African American to me is being darker than most,

African American to me is people expecting

Me not to graduate high school

African American to me is having

To prove to others that I am intelligent

Today as an African American we

Can own business and run companies

It means being prejudged by those with lighter skin,

I am expected to fail in life but I refuse!

I am determined to succeed in life.

Way back in the early 1800’s

we were viewed as a
