From empty to overflowing…

“This is just the way it is,”

is how he managed to survive.

Accommodation to the mean

was his normal way to live.

No disasters came to be,

nor great events to celebrate.

No persecutions to regret

nor just rewards for patience.

Until a day to reckon

came roaring down into his life.

He recognized the emptiness

and harrowing self-pity.

He stepped out of the languor

into love and life abundant.

He bowed his head to Jesus Christ,

lifted up his eyes to God.

What a beautifully simple, psalm-like ode this is.

Love the words you chose ‘accomodation to the mean’. Simple survival. Living out one day after another. Such emptiness there, when there is so much more available.

What a beautiful transition…from meaningless to meaningful. Nicely done, as always.

I really like this. There is a song that states something like, “I could have missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss the dance”. Same idea, and so very true.

Yippee – from ‘dead end’ to ‘endless life’ at one fell swoop – I loved it KC…
