The end of a marriage, derailed by addiction.
Addiction endings
His cold, clammy body against mine,
speech racing, he does not know,
it will be our last night together,
forever.
Disbelief, I was his, for better or worse.
Cocaine cloaked thinking,
promises of change rejected,
the threats begin.
Restraining orders, frightened children,
fractured hearts, I must stay strong.
A new family,
five minus one.
Unwelcome visits, crazed eyes
staring back through the kitchen window
Why are you calling the police on Daddy?
The police stay close, he’s too unpredictable
a call from police,
He’s attempted to get a gun permit,
‘til death do us part?
His change will now be court ordered,
his suburban charade crumbling.
Promises of change now urine tested,
addiction endings,
lives begin again.
