The ancient question about longer days but colder nights. Why does the longer sun lose it heat?

We have seen the winter solstice

The shortest day of autumn

The sun will start shinning longer now

But strange, the days grow colder

Who does defy the warming sun

Who takes away her heat

It is a mystery to be solved

The longer days but colder nights

The priests demand a sacrifice

Food for an ailing sun

We will prepare young girls for the task

We’ll give them sacred vows

Then give their blood up generously

On that giant rock so old

Where many have preceded them

Healthy life so very young

But now the women of this tribe

Rose up against the priests

We know your secret, bastards all

Virgins defiled in name of sun

Those vows you give are just a sham

You rape those virgins of the sun

Defile the gifts that we would make

Then kill them when you’re done

But still the sun’s warmth slowly grows

No sacrifices needed

The sun just still does plod along

To bring the gift of spring

No longer will you take our best

Take virgins for your lust

It’s your turn now you damned priests

Taste now our daggers on that rock

I can’t wait for the spring. You have created quite a story here.

    Well done.

I liked the wising up and shunning of superstitious belief. Had images of Stone Henge whilst reading. Nicely done.

It’s the opposite here though… shorter days, colder nights. Brrrr… Winter on its way.

Salaam, shorter days only till solstice, then larger days. Hence the mystery, if the days are getting longer, why is it still getting colder?
For you, a simple answer. You live in England, the land of perpetual dampness and bed warmers. We in the US are blessed with sunny skies, warm Spring rains, and occasional rainbows. Sure glad we stole this place from its original inhabitants.

Very interesting!… but it’s different when you\’re in Asia :)

Sorry AlmaG, not if you are north of the equator. Daylight gets shorter as you approach winter solstice and then longer afterward, as you approach the vernal equinox. It is logical to think that the coldest days should correspond to the shortest days, but it takes the earth a while to catch up. It doesn’t really warn up until spring starts, by which time the day is about half day and half night. Astronomy 101.

I wonder if the virgins were willing to die for real or if they were screaming to their deaths.
