An old man waits expectantly every year for an unlikely favorite holiday, Halloween. When it finally arrives, it isn’t what he has anticipated it to be.

Pumpkins lit with tea light flare flickering in the cool night air

Clove and Cinnamon Apple Cider simmering above the stove top fire

Tootsie Rolls and popcorn balls sit in black cauldrons by the door

Sleek black cat darts back and forth waiting anxiously

Ghoulish little ghosts come round to knock singing trick or treat

The howling wind begins to roar and spooks the visitors

Off they run spilling treats everywhere they turn

The old man backs away from the door

Alone he sits inside

Each year he waits with great expectancy

For the one day that brings him joy

For he knows this day promises him

Someone will knock on his door

Good job Cynthia. A bit darker than Halloween lets on.
