A poem for a certain someone.
Sitting in a little boat.
Flag waving in the air.
Signaling passers-by
“There’s room for two.”
Sunset, the only company
To a band of souls playing a death march.
Fiddle, fife, led by a chorus of flutes.
A tear at a time, as the sky grows darker.
The water’s song is an ode to my fading heartbeat.
Skipping.
Alas, and at high tide?
The song has changed rhythm.
Beneath me, the motion leaves no doubt.
Has my flag finally been seen?
A young woman, made of gold
Takes the seat next to me.
Holds my hand with a smile.
“Why are you here?”
But we both know the answer.
To push my soul back from the precipice.
The cliffs of my own mind.
Lead me back into the realm of my heart.
Where a sunset means not the end,
But the beginning.
Of a lifetime of hope.
