In a romantic relationship, there are times when we forgo our individuality, our real self. We start making compromises believing that this would help blossom the relationship further. However, what we forget is that “love” is best felt only when it enriches our “self” esteem, and enhances our true “self”. Love, for its survival, demands trading of (higher) values with your loved one. And it perishes under the burden of obligations and expectations.
Here is an Honest Lover’s Mind confessing about his love and the way he understands this emotion. He also expresses the way he’d want his beloved to reciprocate her feelings. It is poem by a romantic who has decided to let go of the mask of hypocrisy so that what comes forth is the only the purity and sanctity of his love.
Dearest,
The time that I spend with you,
All those moments shared with you,
Give me a feeling of accomplishment,
A sense of reaching the best within my own self
I don’t love you for your own longing of love,
Nor do I adore you for how this world sees you
My love is meant for what I hold worthy in my own eyes,
And how even you look up to this appeal in your own self
You and I may live under the same shelter,
You and I may drink from the same glass of wine
But these will never be my reasons to be with you,
But a mere outcome of the fact that you are mine
Do question your reasons to love me,
And challenge your decision to be with me
But do not chain the independence of my mind,
For this mind will forget to love unless it is set free
I yearn for the days when you and I are together,
But I know that this bond will always have a space
The space that’ll keep us alive and make us remember,
Of our identity and to live it with pride and grace
