An Unforgettable Day at The Zoo

My little grandson, Ricky, and his family visited us from Japan last year and their first outing was one we all enjoyed.

When my grandson visited from Japan

We fancied a day at the zoo,

To see all the wonderful animals there

And have fun on the theme rides too.

We made up a picnic and soon did depart

All packed in my son’s rental car.

And off we went for a day of adventure

In a zoo which was not very far.

Chessington Zoo is the home to a host

Of small animals from round the world.

And little Ricky was so excited

As the attractions were slowly unfurled.

We saw donkeys, flamingos and zebras,

Some meerkats and a monkey or two.

There were scary snakes and a mongoose

And lots of other animals that we knew.

Of course Ricky loved all the rides

And his Uncle Mark loved them as well.

There was even a giant ostrich egg

And children could sit in the shell.

Then there were flying jumbos, and crazy cars

There were swing boats and a carousel,

Sea dragons and a great big galleon

Which bobbed up and down on the swell.

The day would not have been complete

Without a Thomas the Tank Engine ride,

And we watched the big smile on our grandson’s face

And he drove the train off in style.

And so we returned from a wonderful day

Recounting all the thrills we’d been through,

And to dream of the rides and the animals seen

On our day at Chessington Zoo.

That was wonderful experience, I saw the Zoo with your eyes or should I say your camera. Inspiring, I must attempt a similar one, although that will be no where near to this one. thanks for sharing.

I love it! Your grandson is adorable! My 6 year old nephew loves the zoo. For Christmas our local zoo is having lights for the holiday, I think my sister and him plus a friend he had from when he was in daycare all day. Right now he is in a Catholic first grade that has a daycare where my sister or her husband picks him up at 5 or 6 pm.

Lovely poem. You brought back so many memories of my childhood days. I love going to the zoo. It’s so much fun. My favorite animals are the zebra, cheetahs and tigers. your grandson is so cute

Thank you so much everyone. It certainly was an enjoyable day and I won’t see Ricky in person for at least another two years. Thank goodness for Skype.
