I like to laugh, but sometimes things need to be brought down a few notches and looked at from a serious point of view. This is one of those times.
I figured, I would break up the lightheartedness with a little poem I wrote a while back. A friend of mine had to deal with a very adult subject at a young age, and after telling me about it, I wrote this poem. I know there are just some subjects one shouldn’t poke fun at, and this was one. It was a very difficult decision for her, considering how she came into the situation was of no fault of her own. There are some terrible people out there, and to do something that heinous to a 13 year old.. AND then leave her with that kind of reminder.. well, only when you are put in that situation can you fully judge her for her decision. I’ll let the poem speak for itself.
Decision
She walks into the sterile room
Anxious and shaking
Not knowing what to do
The doctor tells her the news
A light inside her dims
Only thirteen
“It was only once!” she exclaims
That’s all it takes
She is stuck with this choice
Take it or leave it
Yes… or no
Teenage mother or murderer
She has to take that chance
No one said it would be easy
A victim of a derranged mind
Thirteen and pregnant
Her life force is drained
Abortion is the question
Yes… or no.
In the end, she did get it done. I talked to her a few days ago (which is what triggered this blerb), and she never regrets her decision. She now has 3 lovely kids, and never looks back on that time with disgust or anger. She forgave her attacker, and made the decision that living in regret is NO way to live.
Until next time.
