This poem is about the common idea of "probinsyanos" that working here in Manila means earning gold. Their sons or daughters come here to work as slaves, yet most of their salary is always sent to the province to feed their families and relatives. Unknown to many, living in the province is easier and cheaper than living in the city. It’s just that some of those in the provinces don’t realize it, blaming poverty to God and their parents. It is maybe because they lack education and perseverance, which is why they send their children to Manila to “dig gold”.

Kung pinanganak ka na mahirap,

Huwag mo isisisi sa iba.

Kung puro ka trabaho’t sila’y palahingi

Huwag pauuto, matuto kang humindi

Ngunit turuan mo namang sila’y kumayod

Di porket Manilenyo ka na, buhay mayaman ka

Kaya sila’y wag aasa, pagka’t mas maganda sa probinsya

I understand the poem very much. Just like you I am also fond of literature, and your poem isa masterpiece. You did your best. The poem gives a very important message, if you want to help a person, teach him how to fish.

Your so right… You just got to find it out when you experience it… Nice poetry.

  • craziestqueenever on Feb 1, 2012

Well said! I understand your poem. Because I am a “Probinsyana”. I was not born in Manila and I am not a gold digger. Manila is the popular city in the Philippines, but I still love our place! I do believe that not all the people in Manila is successful.

tama nga naman hindi sa lahat ng panahon bigay ka nlng bigay.Hindi ka naman banko .Pinaghirapan mo yun tpos at dali nmn hingin sayo ang pinaghirapan mo.

  • psynoid on Feb 8, 2012

I can relate, I am sick and tired of people treating well-to-do relatives in Manila as a ‘pala-bigasan’. The same thing applies to people abroad. Money don’t grow in trees, and if given a choice, it would still be best to stay in the land where you were born in.

  • Joan Marion on Feb 8, 2012

Your poem is very nice and quite true, I also came from the province and has settled here in the city and i understand exactly how being a pala-bigasan feels.

  • Chona on Feb 9, 2012

so true…. iba pa rin talaga sa probinsya kaysa sa magulong siyudad…. some probinsyanos think the same… siguro because when someone who works in the city goes home, may mga pagbabago niya kaya ayan tuloy…. tumaas to the max expectations nang mga kanayon…

  • Gee on Feb 10, 2012

I agree… But it still depends on the person. If you let people think na “may kaya” ka na nga, they’ll expect more from you. But if you keep your feet on the ground and maintain your low profile, maybe they’ll think otherwise. :)
