Memories of learning maths at school.

I’m sitting in my maths class.

It really is such a bore.

I can’t remember, though I’m trying so hard,

How many nines are in fifty four.

I know a square has four sides,

And that a triangle has only three.

A circle is made up of three hundred and sixty degrees,

But that isn’t helping me.

A right angle is a square corner

There’s ninety degrees there I’m sure.

The angles of a triangle make one hundred and eighty

But the angles of a square make much more

There are seven eights in fifty six.

There are a hundred pence in a pound,

But the answer that I am so desperate for,

Is nowhere to be found.

Where can it be? What shall I do?

I really feel such a twit.

How come everyone else knows their tables so well?

Hang on… I’ve remembered it!

SIX !!!

very fun poem about Maths! I joined Maths & Science Society during my school days but all the knowledge are already returned long ago, my Maths was ok, but not Science though I from Science stream, to me both very tough. I have learnt the hardest Maths, but now if you ask me any primary school Maths, I may not know how to solve, it’s true.
    :D

  • jimbob1 on Aug 22, 2010

CR…SIX??? Are you sure? I might have to dig out a calculator and double check the answer…not so sure there are six nines in 54, but I’m petty certain there a nine sixes in 54 if that helps at all. Anyway, I voted that I liked this Math 101 refresher course…Are yiou sure about the number of degrees in a triangle???

This is cute and fun. Math has developed considerably so it helps to keep on learning about it especially if we have kids to teach. Thanks Christine.

If all teachers took your skill, spilled it on the kids at school.
Maths in class would be a breeze, no dunces, or fools if they used your tools… excellent Christine cheers

There is some other thing in everything, if you see the logic in it. Excellent poetry. But do not bring the problem of tables to me. I remember what seven times eight is, but never remember how much eight times seven is :)

loved the poem, and math is also my down fall I’ve failed Math 95 x3 and I have to pass it with a “C” to get my degree.
between your math poem and the yoga article I just read
maybe I can yet pass it before I’m dead. lol
