Kelsey and Julian, my two oldest grandchildren, are the joy of my life now and when growing up. This poem was the result of reading so-o-o many of their favorite books with them that contained animals with human characteristics. Now I enjoy reading with my grandson Tye who is also has a great love of animals.
I had a silly dream last night
Of animals on parade,
And now awake, I still can hear
The funny noise they made.
I saw the Leaping Lion in front
Who twirled his red baton.
He wore a bow tie and a coat,
And growled as he moved on.
The next in line was Crocodile
Who played upon his snout.
He wore a polka dot scarf,
And grinned as he moved out.
Then close to him was Elephant
Who trumpeted his trunk.
He wore pink slippers on his feet,
And slinked and then he slunk.
Oh my, look at the tall Giraffe
She shook her tambourine.
She wore white pearls around her neck
Just like a beauty queen.
The Monkey rode the Zebra too,
And played upon his stripes.
He wore a feather in his tail,
And smoked a crooked pipe.
