Hatred and cruelty create glaring headlines now and then. Since time immemorial, wars and persecutions have spilled the blood of those that were innocent, because of their beliefs, the color of their skin, race and culture. The sense that we are not created equal has as yet not left the arena of human affairs. We still hear the ominous sounds of the drums of war, the fanatcism that rages in the far corners of the world, the malice and discrimination, and last but not least, the exercise of power and self-aggrandizement.
Through the darkness,
Past and present,
Of man’s ignorance untold,
Breeds a virus so unpleasant,
It has never left its hold
On the elements of fairness
And enlightenment that show
Avenues of true awareness,
Broadening even more and more.
Still, such virus leaves a mystery,
Presently, out of the past,
That the smudges of man’s history
Do not seem to fade at last.
Flames of hatred rise and soaring,
As its fires keep on burning;
While the nations keep on warring,
And hostilities keep churning,
Much there is to be desired,
Time must some day surely tell
Either we attain our heaven
Or condemned to fiery hell!
