Child’s story in limerick format.

My name is Annie

Last name Bananie,

I’ll be ten years old this May.

I belong to Al

He’s my best pal,

We met when I was a stray.

I guess I’m a mutt

And I was given up,

‘Cause I’m not a pedigree.

Al didn’t mind

He says I’m a find,

And that’s how we came to be.

Al has a red truck

And pulls cars that are stuck,

For that he charges a fee.

He said I could ride

Right on the inside,

So, I sit in the front for free.

We work late into the night

Up into the morning light,

And even crossed a county line

It was to help a lady

Who was having a baby,

Just in the nick of time.

We drive here and there

Pulling vehicles with care,

And see many interesting places.

No job is too big

Thanks to the size of our rig,

And we love seeing such happy faces.

Sometimes when it’s slow

To Darlene’s coffee shop we go,

It’s part of our routine.

A coffee for Al

A donut for his best pal,

And a pat on the head from Darlene.

Once a family of three

Whose car was hit by a tree,

Became stuck in the mud so deep

The baby sitting in the back

Announced his name was Jack,

While crying loudly, woken from his sleep.

Opening the window a crack

Al introduced me to baby Jack,

Who giggled and started to smile.

I licked his tears

And tickled his ears,

And played with him all the while.

Al said, “Annie here’s a treat.

Just keep him in his seat,

Until we can free the car.”

We played in the back

And that’s where I sat,

As Al got out his crow bar.

Relieved to be with their boy

Jack’s parents hugged him for joy,

Happy to see him set free.

They started to talk

And asked as we walked,

Could they possibly adopt me?

Al knelt down just so

And smiling at Jack, said “no”

Annie’s works as part of my crew.

She may be small,

Not even that tall

But I can’t let her go, thank you.”

The moral of this story

Is that you don’t have to feel sorry,

For a working dog like me.

I have a place to sleep

And lots of food to eat,

And I always get to ride for free.

And, I’m not a pedigree!
