This is a poem that I wrote for my parents 60th Wedding Anniversary that sums of some highlights in their lives.
Anniversary Poem to our Parents
Russell hailed from Winsloe North
Florence grew up in Clyde River,
After spending many a night on Dizzy Block
A ring he soon would give her.
She spent some time in Boston
And worked for awhile in Toronto,
But it wasn’t long before he said
You better get back here pronto.
So one fine day in October
They joined hands and said “I do”,
And went on to start their future
With a love that was strong and true.
He worked for awhile at the “Packers”
But his heart was not really there,
It was the farm life that he wanted
And that good old country air.
They have grown a few potatoes
And milked a cow or two,
They worked on those 50 acres
Like no one else could do.
Six children they have raised
Whose lives they still share,
On happy days and sad ones
They are always there.
They also have some grandchildren
Of those they have nine,
They give countless hours of pleasure
They truly are sublime.
He has played a few card games
With his siblings and friends too,
She likes to chat awhile
Or share a joke with you.
They have travelled places near and far
Nova Scotia, down South and out West
But their hearts have truly shown
That PEI is the best.
You have loved, and lived and built a home
With pleasure and with pride,
Your biggest accomplishment has been
That you did it side by side.
A partnership like yours is rare
60 years you’ve been together,
You’ve always been a loving team
In sunny and stormy weather.
So Mom and Dad with great happiness
We celebrate with you this day,
And want to tell you from our hearts
That we love you in every way.
Happy Anniversary from your Children and Grandchildren
