For the men and women who move the goods that feed, clothe and house us, and for the loved ones who wait at home. And for Nicholas Kenney, whose stories about trucking gives us all insight into that industry.

Too proud to sit on the street corner

With a hunk of cardboard,
He drives his aching body
Out the door for one more run.

Leaves behind his loving wife,
His dog, and a host of bills,
While worries and fears
Are his faithful companions.

Wheeling down the road
In every kind of weather,
Trying to make the schedule
And still mind the rules;

Hauling goods and gear
That cost more than
A year’s wages–
And arriving with it all.

Phone at his ear,
A life-line to sanity
Connecting to his center,
Bringing touch of home.

There’s a lot of endless highways
For a trucker on the road alone.

I am so deeply touched Daisy…it’s beautifully written and tragically so true… God has blessed me with your friendship.
May he bless you and yours always…
