APPLES AND PUMPKINS
The orchards on the hillsides
are crowned with ruby gems;
apples, tart sweet delicious apples
when mid-September comes again
and the fields are decorated too,
seems with orbs of carnelian
all gathered ‘round the corn stalks
in Green Mountain autumn fields;
another year of plenty,
seems a good harvest yield,
along with nature’s wildwood bounty
keeping us free from want
here in these Green Mountains,
the Green Mountains of Vermont.
