Approval.

I sit quiet, I observe your eyes.

You crack the ice, tip it over.

The loud noise, I impulsively quiver.

You walk, I notice.

Your tone, I notice.

Your words, I notice.

To please, I play.

To please, I work.

To please, I act.

I’m no dog, but my leash is tight.

I have my freedom, but I cry.

Through these eyes, I see you.

You’re sad, I comfort.

You’re hungry, I cook.

You’re happy, I go-along.

To know, I can’t.

To hear, I can.

To listen, I won’t.

I’m no parent, but I’m past my time.

I have hopes for you, but you cry.

Through your eyes, I’m not good enough.
