It’s easy to break Zorro’s heart–also, accidents happen–a true story.

Yes, April.

I chased her through the calendar

thought I’d find her

in a poetry reading

in a library

a small room

at a special event

to honor her namesake

that month

and the stuff she wrote

but she wasn’t there.

So, I read my own poetry

and listened to others.

They questioned me

and found out

I lived in Troy, NY.

One guy,

who wore pagan amulets

said his group met

each week

in an art gallery I belonged to.

He asked me for a ride home.

On the way to Troy

to drop him off in the barrio

as he was telling me

he worked in the high school

for some reason

I had to put on the brakes

and by accident

a CD flew out of a holder

I had on the visor

and hit him in the eyelid.
