A soul was traded for life.

He would forsake,

as he walked toward the burning lake,

his soul for life,

what had appeared to be a menace

and arrogant extravagance,

was in substance a reasonable transaction,

life for death,

eternity for breath,

his life was a loan to be paid in time,

he had already lost purpose,

the exchange was made,

an odd trade,

as the devil waited for him in the shade
