I have three Bi-racial daughters, and I taught them this. By Simonne Liberty.
When you walk into a room with a smile on your face
it melts down the coldness of bigotry toward your race
when you walk into a room with an attitude of anger
on your face
there will reflect back to you
angry looks without grace
what one views as looks of racism
are often only looks of curiosity
when you present a defensive attitude
you invite hostility
when you smile and ignore the
frightful stares
take notice of how friendly faces
drown out the spiteful glares
be yourself and don’t judge
those you do not know
until you have given them a chance
to learn and grow
be friendly and kind to everyone
you chance to meet
if they have a problem with the way you look
don’t freak!
those who dwell on bigotry secretly simmer inside
while those who are open and friendly
have nothing to hide
when you walk into a room
looking angry and mean
you are the one that to the onlookers
is the bigot it seems
if you need an attitude adjustment to get along
then it’s not those you meet
but yourself who is wrong.
