United we are at peace. Divided – we either watch the Royal Wedding or Friday Night Football….

Australians can be a divided lot

When it comes to important things

The royal wedding was being relayed

But football is what Friday night brings

*

The royal fans stood their ground

The television station even complied

They weren’t going to be held responsible

For a nations divide

*

The football was delayed an hour

While royal fans enjoyed the view

Of the much anticipated wedding

And Wills and Kate, saying – I do! (I will)

*

The station took control soon after

‘We leave the royal wedding now,

The football’s about to start’

The walk down the aisle, is not an important part?

*

Compromise is a wonderful thing

Although at times, seemingly – unfair

Friday football is broadcast nearly every week

The royal wedding a ‘once in a lifetime’ affair!

Isn’t that a bit dangerous throwing yourself in the midst of what could become an ugly arguement? I don’t think we have to use a lot of imagination as to how the decision to watch what devided between the sexes. I think someone here called the Royal Wedding “the Women’s World Cup”! Imagine if something happened after they turned to the football- like a “runaway bride?” Here we have the Heidi game- when at the end of a critical playoff game the startions cut away to replay the movie “Heidi” and the team that was losing mounted a huge comback and won.
But you are right- how often is there a Royal Wedding? They should have moved the games or delayed them until the entire ceremony was over.

Stick by your guns…it’s your world cup.

if I were them, I will stick to the footmatch match fixed timing, maybe because I am not so keen to watch that royal wedding, so I can say that.
another well written poem, well done Janette.

It was not just in Australia, I think that this divide affected most of the Commonwealth countries.

I would watch the royal wedding as I wanted to know how a christian wedding would be.

Thankfully in the UK we got to watch the whole thing over and over and no football was in sight lol.

In the United States they aired coverage of the Royal wedding for 7 hours and then repeated the whole thing and now it is the next day and CNN is running it again. Okay, that is enough of that now.

Like Anandavey says we got to watch the wedding over and over here in Britain. It was so beautiful that even the men got wholly involved despite pretending not to be interested beforehand. It was a day to raise our spirits. A lovely poem, Janette.

Yes I agree the Royal Wedding comes once in a lifetime – football all you need is the end score? Or not?

Every tv station here in the philippines have their own coverage of the royal wedding so I guess we cannot avoid to watch it unless we opted to watch a cd tape. Nice poem J.M. Been away from Triond for quite long months and I really miss your articles.
