Authentic Self a poem by Jennifer Jo Fay. A poem of inspiration. Inspirational poem about finding your authenticity.

Authentic Self

Who are you?  And what makes up

your inner self?

Do you feel a strong desire

to know who you are really?

Do you think you can begin to

know yourself?

Can you strip away the layers

and begin to see who is really underneath?

Do you think you would like what you see

or would you want to change things?

Is your authentic self truthful

or do you hide behind a false facade?

What do you think your inner truth

really is?

What if all your possessions were gone?

Who would you be then,

without your worldly possessions?

I don’t know, but I bet

you would learn to discover

what hides within.

Sometimes it is just waiting

knowing that one day

you will come searching for it.

How will you know it

when you have found

the key that unlocks the door

to your private sanctuary?

Can you think you know

where you even stashed the key?

Good lord,

that invisible key has been

stashed deep inside your brain.

You know it is in that special garden.

Just which flower do you think

it has been planted under?

I hope you know where you left

your disappearing shovel.

Remember,

you might have left

that one inside your heart.

Hmm, an interesting extrapolation of the connection between the heart and mind.

There are no new revelations here from you, but, I like this one better than the other two I’ve read, because it’s slightly different in its thematic approach, and even though the disconnection between the writer and reader is still there, you were imaginative enough to end the piece without posing another question to the reader, but to leave an idea on the mind.

    Thanks for sharing.
