I believe that it is better to say something than nothing at all.
When faced with the awkwardness of death
we tend to be able to just mumble a sorry
no other words seem to come to mind
we fear the offset of tears far too much
nobody wants to make a grieving person cry
you want to bring them some kind of comfort
not rip out their insides
