A Poem by Leslie Darnell
Watch out for the "Players" out there!
Baby It’s Still You
by Leslie Darnell
It’s all too late,
There’s no turning back
You had me living
On the fast track.
You wanted answers Now!,
Though we’d only just begun
I never passed your preliminary test
In an instant I was hung.
I wanted Life and Love and Passion
But Perfection was your game,
Yeah, you sure were the Player
As you crossed out my name.
I ain’t what you’re looking for
No flashy, swishy bling-bling,
No cash, no flash , no car
I ain’t the latest thing.
But Baby it was you
These tears are saying so
You never gave us time
For our Love to grow.
And Baby it’s still you
I’ve tried every way I know,
But you’ve shut your heart so tight
No more lead to follow.
I just sit and write this song
Into the winds of time,
Memories of the times we had
And kisses oh so fine.
We spoke of lovers past
While we let each other down,
The Now is what we lost
As we watched each other drown.
We talked of romantic movies
And forgot to live our own,
As if we were on The Oprah Show…
And now our chance is gone.
But you said it wasn’t me,
I wasn’t quite the fit
Into the game you’d planned
We’d never be a hit.
But Baby it was you
These tears are saying so
You never took the chance
For our Love to grow…
And Baby it’s still you
But I have to let you go,
I’m not the one you wanted Love,
But Babe, it’s still you…
