Poem written 8th August 2008.

I am who I am now
Because of all I used to be,
Trying hard to travel light,
Realizing what I don’t need.
So many things I’ve held on to,
Some things only weigh me down,
Everything I’ve made my own
Makes me who I am now.

I carried you so far,
I kept you for much too long,
Now I’ve filled in his love
After throwing you onto the road.
And I’ve packed her wise words -
They helped lighten all I carry,
I’ve kept the lessons I’ve learnt,
I know which possessions are momentary.

Don’t want weight on my shoulders,
No sharp edges digging into my back,
I’m leaving a trail behind me
Of all that was holding me back.
Every step is a step further,
Every sacrifice lightens my load,
And now walking along with him by my side
Sweeps my horizon with a glow.
