Holy Spirit’s Work.
The barber thought he was as good
As any other man.
And he could cut a fellow’s hair
The best in all the land!
Suppose a fellow walking in
Should take the vacant chair,
And I applied the scissors
To his scraggly head of hair.
No words could ere describe it?
It would be an awful mess.
Though the more I tried my hand at it,
Much worse became my best!
But supppose in a sense, the barber,
His craft he could impart.
And guiding my awkward fingers,
He could perfect my art!
Thus, then, the Holy Spirit,
When He comes in to dwell,
Doth give us special power,
To live the Christ-life well!
Thus the barbers illustraion
Holds a precious truth within.
God’s Holy Spirit indwelling,
Can guard from every sin!
